The BMW R7 motorcycle was judged Best in Class in the German Motorcycles category at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, held Sunday, August 19th on the Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.The award was received by Karl Baumer, Head of BMW Group Classic. “The BMW R7 is one of the most extraordinary motorcycles in our collection,” noted Baumer upon receiving the award. “We are delighted that the effort to bring the BMW R7 to the Pebble Beach Concours was rewarded with Best in Class for Motorcycles.”The BMW R7 motorcycle was created in 1934 at the height of the art deco movement which heavily influenced its design. It was created as a concept but never put into production making this R7 the only one of its kind in the world. It had not been seen for nearly 70 years when it was discovered in 2005 whereupon it was restored by BMW Group Classic. It is now a part of BMW Group Classic’s extensive collection of significant BMW cars and motorcycles.

2013 BMW HP4 MOTORCYCLE

2013 BMW HP4 S1000RR | BMW and its BMW Motorrad division is introducing the first four-cylinder motorcycle, the BMW HP4, for model year 2012. A technical and engineering progression that started with the very first HP model back in 2005, the HP4 harnesses the same water-cooled four-cylinder in-line engine found on the BMW S 1000 RR. Able to generate 193 horsepower, BMW added “Rain”, “Sport”, “Race” and “Slick” modes for an even power distribution despite the ride conditions. Race ABS, along with Dynamic Traction Control, both optimized for two wheels, there is even a Launch Control function like those on high-end performance cars. Already the lightest among four-cylinder superbikes at just 199 kilos, more weight can be taken off with its Competition Package of carbon fiber elements and special alloy accessories. The Goodwood Revival 2012 The Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy race will feature motorcycles from the 1950s. These will include iconic names such as BSA, MV Agusta, Matchless, Norton, Gilera, BMW and Velocette.

The Goodwood Revival 2012 will again feature exceptional two-wheeled action, both on and off track, when the annual historic races return 14-16 September to Goodwood Circuit in West Sussex, England.

About The Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy race

In the spirit of the original Goodwood Saturday motorcycle meeting – is already shaping up to be a hard fought battle with some ace rider pairings, all on highly competitive machinery. As in previous years, the race it will continue as a two-part, two-rider challenge, with one race on Saturday and another on Sunday;the result decided by aggregate timing.

Top riders in action on these sports bikes from a bygone era are set to include Goodwood regulars Wayne Gardner, Jeremy McWilliams, Cameron Donald, James Haydon, Andrew Pitt, Michael Rutter and Keith Amor, with Revival first-timers Nick Jeffries, Rex Butcher, Mike ‘Spike’ Edwards, Howie Mainwaring and Glen Richard also due to compete.

A BMW flat tracker? It looks like Ron Wood has taken the 798cc twin found in the BMW F 800 series and dropped it into one of his gorgeous flat track frames.

The bike had its first outing at the fairgrounds in West Liberty, Iowa running in an AMA race. It looks like BMW is going to get into competition wherever it can and I have little doubt they’ll be a contender.As I mentioned before, Ron Wood flat track motorcycles combine simplicity and function into a beautiful bike. Now, if they would just make them street legal.

They say that behind every great man is a great woman, and this certainly appears to be the case with Manuela Raffaeta, the fiancée of World Superbike rider Marco Melandri. After the BMW Motorrad Days warm-up party at the BMW Museum, Manuela returned there the following day for a photoshoot on a BMW bike that made Superbike history more than 35 years ago.

All K75 models share the same drivetrain. They are powered by a 740 cc liquid-cooled inline three-cylinder engine with Bosch fuel injection. The US EPA specific engine produce 68 hp (51 kW) while all others produce 75 hp (56 kW). It utilizes a five-speed transmission with a dry clutch and a shaft-driven final drive. The engine is oriented longitudinally to lower the center of gravity and allow the most efficient power transfer to the shaft drive.

Introduced in 1935, the BMW R12 motorcycle was not only fast but a sturdy piece of German engineering. At the outbreak of World War II a few years later, the popular model became a standard issue vehicle among the German Police and Army Reconnaissance Unit. And even though BMW replaced it with the BMW R75, a purpose-built military motorcycle, during later part of the war, it did not taper off interests among war history buffs and cafe racer enthusiasts. More recently, the R12 became the subject of study by French designer Nicolas Petit. To fully appreciate the historical nature of the R12, Petit rendered the R12 Hommage Concept, a machine reflected many design elements of the original while largely based on the more recent BMW HP2 Series

The Moto Sumisura ~ BMW K75 Tatanka Cafe Racer

The Moto Sumisura “Tatanka 75” started out life as a BMW K75 which at the time of production was labeled as BMW’s cheapest motorcycle. Regardless of it’s less than flattering “point of difference” the K75 was a solid performer capable of 4.6 second 0-100 times and a top speed of around 120mph (193kmh). This particular K75 was the full fairing, road touring model in electric blue with roaring panther stickers on the front end. Trimmed fairings, a small headlight with brush guard, gum grips, powder coated rims, low profile indicators and a custom leather clad seat complete the transformation of the BMW. The final product is a much leaner bike that weighs considerably less than it’s stock 227kg form.
