Rare Vintage Car “Touring Car for Two” When Alexander Brunnell Cullen ( ABC) Hardy could not convince his associates, Josiah Dort and William Durant, at the Durant-Dort Carriage Co. of Flint, MI to build cars, he went out on his own and in 1902, he organized the Flint Automobile Co. and produced one-cyclinder, 8 hp, roadster that was called the Flint Roadster. It was named the “Touring Car for Two”. It was modestly priced at $850.. He built fifty-two before deciding to close down because he was not going to pay royalties for the violations of the Selden patent. Hardy later joined Durant as an officer in his General Motors Corp,. and became one of its top leaders.David Dunbar Durant finally acquiesced to the notion of entering into the automobile industry and he bought the Buick Mfg. Co.

Automotive Fact-1

Autofact, cars, Motorsports, BMW M, Direct-Shift Gearbox, Bugatti Veyron, Nissan GT-R, Volkswagen Group, General Motors, Porsche 911, BMW

Launch control typically refers to an electronic aid which is used to assist the drivers of various motorsports at the start of a race.Launch control also refers to an electronic setting on many modern sports cars which help the driver accelerate from a standing start, to gain the most effective “launch”. Popular automobiles with launch control include the BMW M series, certain marques of the Volkswagen Group with Direct-Shift Gearbox (most notably the Bugatti Veyron), Porsche 911, Panamera Turbo, and certain General Motors products. Mitsubishi also incorporated launch control into their Twin Clutch SST gearbox, on its “S-Sport” mode, but the mode is only available in the Evolution X MR and MR Touring (USDM). The Nissan GT-R has electronics to control launch but the company does not use the term “launch control” since some owners have equated the term with turning off the stability control to launch the car, which may void the warranty of the drivetrain.

Diesel Car Breaks World’s Record Despite a Heavy Rain (Feb, 1934)

A NEW world’s speed record for Diesel-powered automobiles of 103.25 m.p.h. has been set by Captain G. E. T. Eyston at the Brooklands, England, race track.Despite heavy rain that necessitated using non-skid tires, Capt. Eyston beat the previous record of 100.75 m.p.h. created at Daytona, Florida, in 1931 by G. L. Cummins. The six cylinder Diesel engine developing 130 h.p. and weighing only 1,414 pounds, is exactly similar to engines used in many London omnibuses. The completely enclosed streamlined body is a radical departure in racing car design. The streamlined tail contains a tank holding sufficient fuel for 800 miles of normal driving. Fuel consumption at racing speed is only twenty miles to the gallon.

5 Driving Tips For A Rainy day

Skidding and Hydroplaning in Rainy Conditions

cars Skidding and Hydroplaning in Rainy Conditions

What is Hydroplaning?

When the road is wet, going above certain speed can cause your car to hydroplane. Hydroplane is a condition when a small layer of water is formed between your tires and he surface of the road. As a result, your car glides on the water film and you lose control on your vehicle. Hydroplaning can occur at speeds as low as 30 mph depending on the amount of water on road, road condition, and the condition of your vehicle. Hydroplaning is more likely if tire pressure is low, or the tires have low tread.

Losing control of your car on wet pavement is a frightening experience.

Skids are scary but hydroplaning is completely nerve-wracking.

Hydroplaning happens when the water in front of your tires builds up faster than your car’s weight can push it out of the way. The water pressure causes your car to rise up and slide on a thin layer of water between your tires.

Taking these simple tips into account can save your life.

You can prevent skids by driving slowly and carefully, especially on curves. Steer and brake with a light touch. When you need to stop or slow, do not brake hard or lock the wheels and risk a skid. Maintain mild pressure on the brake pedal.

If you do find yourself in a skid, remain calm, ease your foot off the gas, and carefully steer in the direction you want the front of the car to go. You must be prepared to turn the steering wheel again and again until the front of the vehicle is traveling in a straight line. For cars without anti-lock brakes, avoid using your brakes. If your car has ABS, brake firmly as you steer into the skid.

Avoid hydroplaning by keeping your tires inflated correctly. Maintain good tire tread. Don’t put off replacing worn tires. Slow down when roads are wet, and stay away from puddles. Try to drive in the tire tracks left by the cars in front of you.

If you find yourself hydroplaning, do not brake or turn suddenly. This could throw your car into a skid. Ease your foot off the gas until the car slows and you can feel the road again. If you need to brake, do it gently with light pumping actions. If your car has anti-lock brakes, then brake normally. The car’s computer will automatically pump the brakes much more effectively than a person can do.

A defensive driver adjusts his or her speed to the wet road conditions in time to avoid having to use any of these measures.

How does AEB works ?

AEB Autonomous Emergency Braking System : We are familiar with ESP, ABS and other technology just because the recent cars launched in India were equipped with such technology. The futuristic AEB stands for Autonomous Emergency Braking System is no longer dream but it is being developed by VW, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Infiniti and many others.

AEB Autonomous Emergency Braking System

How does AEB Autonomous Emergency Braking System works ?
In simple words, AEB is the perfect blend of adoptive cruise control and full automatic control over braking to avoid frontal collisions whether driver wants it or not. It is safety system for cars which employs common types of proximity sensors, camera employing image recognition, LIDAR(that’s like RADAR but with light) and RADAR.It uses sensors or radars installed on the front of the vehicle ,some at the top of the wind shield to monitor the road obstacles coming on way ahead. In fact, that includes speed and distance to the vehicle in front, a control unit detects the risk of an impact. This system doesn’t look farther than 6 to 8 meters. That’s why they work up to 30 to 40 km/h. The driver is informed about the risk of an accident and he is required to push the brakes. In the mean time however,AEB pre-charges the brakes thus allowing the car to react properly whenever driver reacts. In case, the driver fails to react. AEB is there for you.It can apply the brakes with fullpower, bringing the vehicle to a stop in order to either avoid an accident or at least reduce damage. So driver can calmly drive putting trust on AEB. He can have a bite of burger and sip of coca-cola in hands. Of course, if the driver changes the direction or pushes brakes, AEB turns itself and simply continues its duty of monitoring the traffic signal ahead. It dies a better job than an experienced driver.

Price Hiking Spree: Diesel, LPG Prices To Hike

While consumers are already staggering to cope with the skyrocketing prices of petrol, the news of possible hike in the price of the diesel and LPG is indeed an unpleasant and unwelcomed thing that could happen to the common people at this point of time.

After the announcement of fuel price hike starting May 24 midnight, diesel and LPG are likely to follow suit. There are reports suggesting that government is contemplating a cut in subsidies on diesel, kerosene and LPG.

According to sources, the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) will meet on Friday to discuss a possible hike in diesel and LPG prices as well. Media reports said that oil companies are trying for Rs 5 hike in diesel to keep pace with surging petrol prices.

According to the latest petrol price revision, the increase of Rs.6.28 per litre is exclusive of Sales Tax / VAT. So the hike per litre will be over Rs 7.50 across the country.

Hence, the oil companies want the government to shorten the differences in terms of price between the inflammable commodities.

Here is the revised petrol price state-wise:
