Tron Light Cycle Fully Functional Now Street-Legal and For Sale

Last year Tron: Legacy, the remake of the 1982 classic film Tron hit cinemas around the world. Following the story of Sam Flynn as he tries to find his lost father who disappeared twenty years earlier,Tron: Legacy received mixed reviews from fans and critics alike.

But while the reboot of the pioneering Disney classic may not have been to everyone’s tastes some elements of Tron: Legacy have proven very popular among fans, causing Parker Brothers Choppers to recreate its Light Cycle as a full-sized, working, electric-motorcycle.

According to Autobloggreen, the all-electric replica has a claimed range of 100 miles, a top speed of 100 miles-per-hour, and a recharge time of 35 minutes. When you consider that there’s only one motorcycle on the market at the moment capable of such impressive performance, the custom motorcycle is certainly not just a prop. Combine the performance with a custom frame, blue night-time lighting strips and huge 22-inch dual hub-less wheels and it’s bound to make every Tron fan drool.

This isn’t the first time that Parkers Brothers Choppers has made a replica of the Tron:Legacy Light Cycle– but previous models were powered by gasoline. Selling for $55,000, the original gasoline-powered Light Cycle wasn’t cheap, and the team behind the electric version haven’t disclosed the price. Instead, Parkers Brothers Choppers are giving the replica away in an online social media competition.

Full details of  how thy built that are at the Parker Brothers Choppers website.

Keeping It Simple – Minimalist design at the finest

All Photos Courtesy of Joey Ruiter

Designer Joey Ruiter set out to make a custom motorcycle that ignores everything thatmakes custom motorcycles awesome. He took a simple bike and made it as generic and boring as possible by wrapping it in a metal box, obscuring everything but the bottoms of the wheels and the handlebars. No wild paint, gratuitous gadgets, exquisite metal work or crazy add-ons. The result is not only head-turning, but awesome.

The reflective metal and the silent electric engine of the Moto Undone give the impression that there is no bike at all- just a rider floating down the road. Even the dashboard is stripped away; the vital stats can be checked on your smartphone via downloadable apps.

Ruiter’s jruiter + studio has a taste for the beguilingly simple: its minimalist inner city bikemay be the perfect urban ride. Ruiter calls the Moto Undone “pure generic transportation;” it’s anything but. The insistence on simplicity makes the design all the more riveting.

The Moto Undone has a range of 90 miles, or about three hours. And while you won’t be seeing any on the roads anytime soon, you can check it out at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, September 21 through October 9.

Auto Expo 2012- motorcycles displayed

“We are considering to extend the show by a couple of days more. For the next auto show, we will put this proposal as organisers, but it is for the exhibitors to take the final call on it as each extra day would mean an additional cost for them,” CII Trade Fairs Council Chairman Rajive Kaul told PTI.

He said the lesson learnt from the experience this time is that one day should be reserved strictly for the media and exhibitors and no extra passes should be given out for that day.

The 11th Auto Expo co-hosted by SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) and ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association) kicked off at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on January 5 and is on till January 11.

Kaul, however, feels that crowd management continues to be a challenge for organisers of the show.

“Managing the crowd is a challenge as there is a lot of interest from people across age groups and infrastructural bottlenecks remain,” he added.

The organisers have already taken several steps to make it easier for all the stakeholders of the show, he claimed.

“In the past, we had never put a cap on the number of visitors, but this time we have put a restriction of one lakh people, including 30,000 people from the exhibitors’ list and support staff,” he said.

Even the exhibition space this time has been reduced to create 10,000 square metres of free space for people to walk around. Furthermore, the number of exhibitors has been reduced to 1,500 from 2,100 in 2010, he said.

“To make ticket access easy for public, we have sold tickets at 26 metro stations as well. We have also tried to minimise the chances of copying passes and tickets

Motorcycle Sketching Tutorials

STEP 1. Start off with two perfect circles that will be the tires, and a line coming from the middle of the back tire forming a half handle shape.

STEP 2. Finish off the handle shape to create the top of the bike where the gas would actually go, and another line going toward the front wheel.

STEP 3. Now start to sketch the holding mechanism for all the pipes and tubing. On the top of the bike sketch out the slim seat.

STEP 4. The back fender is the next thing to work on, as well as the kick stand and other detailing that a chopper will have.

STEP 5. The handle bars and muffler system is the next thing to work on. The best thing to do is enlarge the image and just look at the detail that needs to be drawn.

STEP 6. Sketch the front fender is next along with the forming of the front tire. This bike has flames on the holding tank, but you can create your own decal.
