Michael Woolaway, Deus Ex Machina’s US Motorcycle Design Director, is calling his latest build The Ding Dagger. Designed and geared to run the back alleyways of Venice, the svelte SR500 based, two-up café racer runs a 570 big bore kit with a ported head, 39mm FCR carb with a K/N air filter, custom dual feed oil lines, Megacycle billet camshaft, new stainless steel valves, R/D springs and retainers, a full stainless steel megaphone shorty pipe, and a first-ever, water saw etched Deus logo on right side cover. Did you get all that? Like all of Woolie’s bikes, the Ding Dagger runs a wealth of hand-made parts. The front fender is hand made. The fender brackets are hand made. The headlight brackets and tachometer mount are hand made. At the controls, a Motoscope tachometer floats above a big vintage headlight. A twin shoe front brake lever and Motion Pro throttle occupy the Woodcraft Racing clip-on bars while a custom triple clamp bridge and stainless steel hardware finish up the steering. Up front, there’s a gorgeous Ceriani four shoe front brake and forks featuring a Race Tech Gold Valve kit. Between the knees, the luxuriously lithe aluminum gas tank wears a Monza style cap. The seat is custom made with waterproof Kushitani leather. Moving towards the stern an A&A Racing chromoly swing arm hooks up with a Durelle Racing knock-off rear hub and Vortex rear sprocket. The rear shocks are from our pals at Works Performance. Buchanan spokes and nipples are threaded through the Excel rear rim and a 46 mm piston Grimeca caliper and KTM master cylinder combine to create a very big, very powerful rear brake. Custom mounts for the rear pegs and a welded-in rear loop finish the framework. There’s a lot going on with this bike and you’ll more than likely want to read this again. The Ding Dagger.

The Yamaha SR500 was first sold in 1978 and was the most popular single cylinder bike in Australia, Europe, Japan and North America for the first years of its production. It was replaced by the Yamaha SR400 which was sold right up until 2008 when tighter emissions regulations made the carburettor fed thumper no longer legal for sales in most developed countries.Due to popular demand, Yamaha started selling an all new, fuel injected SR400 in 2010 although it hasn’t started selling it outside of Japan at the time of writing.

Café Racer : The Fiddler

Fiddler : Café Racer By Deus Ex Machina
Australian customizer seems to have a particular fondness for KAWASAKI W650 . This cool customization is called The Fiddler and has been created by their American chapter, which is located in Venice Beach, California. This time around they have turned the KAWASAKI W650 into a captivating Café racerand we got to say that the end result is once again awesome. Check it out in our pictures.

THE BASE BIKE
The Kawasaki W650, just like its current successor W800, cannot really be described as a very original bike. Launched in 1999 and offered at a competitive price (the W800 now costs about 8,260 euros), its design was meant to remind an old ancestor, namely the W1 introced in 1967, which was also a little bit too similat to the BSA A10. This happened because the Japanese manufacturer had called Meguro, which was licensed to produce a replica of the 1946 BSA A7. However, the ‘99 W650 was much more reminiscent of the Triumph Bonneville T120, so much so that the British house felt forced to introduce a new version of its model the following year. The W650 was powered by a 676 cc flat twin engine delivering 50 hp which – unlike most British twins that boasted an OHV distribution – adopted the typical architecture of the japanese engines, with the camshaft in the head and not in the base, in the same fashion as the Norton Manx and certain other Ducati models of the past, such as the Scrambler. However, despite its lack of originality, the W650 still boasts many advantages: low running costs, excellent mechanical reliability and that sort of vintage look, a quite pleasant vibe that is also emphasized by its kickstart pedal, which can be used as well as its more modern electric start. Last but definitely not least, the W650 has also become one of the favorite bikes among the customizers of the whole planet.
