A NEW world’s speed record for Diesel-powered automobiles of 103.25 m.p.h. has been set by Captain G. E. T. Eyston at the Brooklands, England, race track.Despite heavy rain that necessitated using non-skid tires, Capt. Eyston beat the previous record of 100.75 m.p.h. created at Daytona, Florida, in 1931 by G. L. Cummins. The six cylinder Diesel engine developing 130 h.p. and weighing only 1,414 pounds, is exactly similar to engines used in many London omnibuses. The completely enclosed streamlined body is a radical departure in racing car design. The streamlined tail contains a tank holding sufficient fuel for 800 miles of normal driving. Fuel consumption at racing speed is only twenty miles to the gallon.

Price Hiking Spree: Diesel, LPG Prices To Hike
After the announcement of fuel price hike starting May 24 midnight, diesel and LPG are likely to follow suit. There are reports suggesting that government is contemplating a cut in subsidies on diesel, kerosene and LPG.
According to sources, the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) will meet on Friday to discuss a possible hike in diesel and LPG prices as well. Media reports said that oil companies are trying for Rs 5 hike in diesel to keep pace with surging petrol prices.
According to the latest petrol price revision, the increase of Rs.6.28 per litre is exclusive of Sales Tax / VAT. So the hike per litre will be over Rs 7.50 across the country.
Hence, the oil companies want the government to shorten the differences in terms of price between the inflammable commodities.

The first generation Corolla blossomed way back in 1966 in Japan as a Toyota dream to produce a people’s car. This rear wheel drive Toyota Corolla was an instant hit – an outstanding compact car that coupled striking appeal with the highest standards of performance. The year 1974 saw the third generation Toyota Corolla, a masterpiece of engineering that grew on to become the best-selling vehicle in the world between 1974 and 1977.
Never content with success, the Toyota dream surged on, and 1979 saw the advent of the fourth generation Toyota Corolla, still with a rear wheel drive. 1984 was the year that saw significant changes in the Toyota Corolla. This fifth generation Corolla came with a front wheel drive, and a coupe version – the GT-S, with a 16-valve engine. Through the years the Toyota Corolla grew in terms of likeability and performance, and 1988 saw the arrival of the sixth generation Toyota Corolla. The seventh generation 1993 Corolla is one that looks familiar. That’s when it moved to its current compact size. This 1993 Toyota Corolla is also famous for picking up a whole host of awards along the way.
1998 was a landmark year for the Toyota Corolla. It saw the arrival of the eighth generation Corolla that carried the awesome 1.8 litre engine under its hood. And what you see before you is the culmination of advanced styling, advanced comfort and advanced performance – the ninth generation Toyota Corolla. In its soul the Toyota Corolla carries a destiny – to stand for everything that represents perfection in the compact sedan category. A destiny that’s reflected in the 3 Crore Corollas manufactured in over 150 countries across 14 factories, making it the world’s highest selling car. With “dynamic” and “advance” as keywords, the New Corolla Altis’s style moves in a “dignified and youthful” direction. The items that satisfied customers were determined and then incorporated into the vehicle. The unified worldwide body developed was named “Global One” – a fitting name, as this Corolla is one for the entire world to enjoy.

New X5 tri-turbo said to ape X5 M styleThe intriguing story is doing the rounds on the web after details of the development program were posted on a German car forum.
Apparently tri-turbo equipped X5s are already being ’Ring tested, although key body differences are currently disguised. These are said to include wider arches – although slimmer than those on the X5 M – and a new front end that will also mimic the X5 M’s style but with smaller grille openings.
It is claimed that the new generation of tri-turbos will come with ‘Efficient Dynamics’ features such as regenerative braking and Start-Stop technology, and the original forum post says the diesel development is part of a new ‘Supersports’ program designed to bring greater performance to drivers of petrol and diesel engined BMWs.
