A NEW world’s speed record for Diesel-powered automobiles of 103.25 m.p.h. has been set by Captain G. E. T. Eyston at the Brooklands, England, race track.Despite heavy rain that necessitated using non-skid tires, Capt. Eyston beat the previous record of 100.75 m.p.h. created at Daytona, Florida, in 1931 by G. L. Cummins.The six cylinder Diesel engine developing 130 h.p. and weighing only 1,414 pounds, is exactly similar to engines used in many London omnibuses.The completely enclosed streamlined body is a radical departure in racing car design. The streamlined tail contains a tank holding sufficient fuel for 800 miles of normal driving. Fuel consumption at racing speed is only twenty miles to the gallon.

Price Hiking Spree: Diesel, LPG Prices To Hike

While consumers are already staggering to cope with the skyrocketing prices of petrol, the news of possible hike in the price of the diesel and LPG is indeed an unpleasant and unwelcomed thing that could happen to the common people at this point of time.  



After the announcement of fuel price hike starting May 24 midnight, diesel and LPG are likely to follow suit. There are reports suggesting that government is contemplating a cut in subsidies on diesel, kerosene and LPG.


According to sources, the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) will meet on Friday to discuss a possible hike in diesel and LPG prices as well. Media reports said that oil companies are trying for Rs 5 hike in diesel to keep pace with surging petrol prices.

According to the latest petrol price revision, the increase of Rs.6.28 per litre is exclusive of Sales Tax / VAT. So the hike per litre will be over Rs 7.50 across the country.


Hence, the oil companies want the government to shorten the differences in terms of price between the inflammable commodities.

Renault India was established in 2005 and entered in to collaboration with Mahindra & Mahindra to manufacture the popular Logan sedan. In April, 2010 Renault decided to go solo in the Indian market and in May, 2011 introduced its first product, the premium Executive sedan Fluence. Renault cars are manufactured in the Alliance plant located on the outskirts of Chennai in Oragadam with a capacity of 200,000 units per annum.


Renault Fluence is available in both petrol and diesel engine variants. The diesel variant is coupled to with Manual Type transmission with 6 forward, 1Reverse gear, whereas the petrol variant of this beautiful sedan is added with Advanced CVT II transmission including 6 speed automatic gear and Manual Mode, if required. Also, it is very efficient in terms of suspension, brakes and the steering. The sedan comes fitted with advanced suspension system in which front suspension is a MacPherson type with coil spring, stabilizer bar and double acting shock absorber and rear one comes fitted with a trailing arm type with coil spring and double acting shock absorber. A hatchback that established an absolutely refreshing sense of style through its unconventional, but bold design, the Chevrolet Beat being sold for over two years now in its 1.2 liter 4 cylinder petrol engine is a car with complete balance in performance, style and comfort.


 However, seeing the growing demand for diesel cars in the country, GM has now introduced a diesel version of its Beat model, for which a lower capacity engine was specially designed for India application by GM Technical Centre India  and GM Power-train Europe .

Giving the Chevrolet Beat Diesel life is an all-new 936cc, 3-cylinder diesel engine that pumps out 58.5 PS of power @ 4,000 Rpm as compared to the petrol’s 80-odd horses. But while, the power output on this new oil mill may seem a bit inadequate, a robust diesel torque of 150 Nm @ 1750 Rpm and its ARAI certified mileage of 24 km/ltr makes this stylish hatch, a real value for money proposition.
This engine is India specific, and it’s not available anywhere else in the world for now. It is set to be the smallest diesel in the Indian passenger car space yet. Although, the overall design and interiors of the Beat Diesel remains identical to its petrol sibling, some minor changes on the new oil burner include its tyre width, that has been upsized from a 155-section on the petrol to a 165-section on the diesel, on identical 14-inch wheels.
The new Chevrolet Beat Diesel TCDi  will be available to interested buyers in four variants, starting with the base PS model for 4.29 lakh, the LS for 4.59 lakhs, the LT  for 4.99 lakhs and finally the top end LT (optional package) vairant for 5.45 lakhs (all prices are ex-showroom Delhi). GM India is also offering its buyers 3 years or 1 lakh kilometers warranty with the purchase of this car.

BMW is reportedly developing a 350bhp triple-turbo version of its 3.0 six-cylinder diesel engine for duty in new performance versions of the X5 and X6 – and eventually the company’s entire saloon car range.

The MTT Turbine Superbike

SUPERBIKE, also known as the Y2K Turbine SUPERBIKE, is the world’s second wheel-driven motorcycle powered by a turbine engine, created by Ted McIntyre of Marine Turbine Technologies Inc.


Reports of the MTT Turbine SUPERBIKE appeared as early as 1999 in a May issue of Cafe Racermagazine, but the production model was introduced in 2000.
Powered by a Rolls-Royce-Allison Model 250 turboshaft engine, producing 238 kW (320 hp), the motorcycle has a recorded top speed of 227 mph (370 km/h), with a price tag of US$175,000.00[1] It is recognized by Guinness World Records as the “Most powerful production motorcycle” and the “Most expensive production motorcycle.” Unlike some earlier jet-powered motorcycles, where a massive jet engine provided thrust to push the motorcycle, the turboshaft engine on this model drives the rear wheel via a two-speed gearbox. Riding the motorcycle is said to be somewhat tricky due to the inherent throttle lag in the engine, acceleration when letting off the throttle, and extreme length.


The engines used in the motorcycles are second-hand, having reached the FAA running time limit, after which they have to be rebuilt, regardless of condition. MTT can buy these engines for a much lower price than new engines and use them on surface vehicles without requiring FAA approval. To get around the problem of procuring the kerosene usually used in turbine engines, the engine of the bike is also able to use Diesel fuel, or even Jet A fuel.
In addition to the engine, there are other innovations incorporated into this bike, such as radar detector with laser scrambler, rear-mounted camera with LCD display, and an optional passenger seat.

Unlike other piston engine powered contemporary motorcycles (such as the Hayabusa), the 2001 and later models of the MTT Turbine SUPERBIKE do not have the 300 km/h speed limiting governors self-imposed by Japanese manufacturers.
In 2008, MTT released the “Streetfighter,” another jet-bike with a more powerful 420-horsepower (310 kW) engine.
