1956 Jaguar XK-140

From 1948 to 1954, the brilliant XK 120 established Jaguar at the forefront of sports car manufacturers with its elemental yet graceful lines and impressive performance. While approximately 12,000 XK 120s were ultimately built, it was soon clear that its sound original design could easily be improved and updated. As such, the XK 140 arrived in late 1954 with a comprehensive list of improvements designed to overcome the few shortcomings of its predecessor. The XK 140 provided enhanced performance and passenger comfort to maintain Jaguar’s appeal, particularly in the all-important U.S. market.

Notable upgrades included the addition of precise rack and pinion steering, improved braking and cooling, as well as greatly improved cabin comfort and legroom. In particular, the curvaceous Fixed Head Coupe provided 2+2 seating and enhanced luggage room, made possible by the relocation of the batteries. While the basic 102-inch wheelbase remained unchanged, the bodywork was subtly updated, with the classic Jaguar styling elements of the original design remaining largely intact.

Fewer than 9,000 XK 140s were manufactured, with reliable estimates placing the production total at 8,943 units over a three-year production run. Like its predecessor, the XK 140 was offered in Open Two Seater, Drophead Coupe and Fixed Head Coupe body styles, with approximately 2,800 Coupes built.

Jaguar F-type- New York Auto Show

In an extraordinary move, Jaguar has announced it will produce an all-new sports car to go on sale in mid-2013, named the F-Type. Announced but not exhibited at the New York International Auto Show, Jaguar has released images of the vehicle with camouflage paint.

Given the iconic status of its previously letter-designated sports cars (the C-type, D-type and E-type), and Jaguar’s already stated intention that the F-type will have the soul of the legendary E-Type, it can be reasonably expected to be spectacularly good.

Jaguar’s Global Brand Director, (the appropriately named) Adrian Hallmark, said in New York, “we showed the C-X16 concept in September 2011, and the reaction to it has been so positive that we’ve accelerated our development of an all-new Jaguar sports car.”

“That car will be called the F-type, and it will be unveiled in production form later this year (2012). The core appeal of Jaguar’s cars is their sporting heart, and that heart will beat stronger than ever before in the F-type.”

“Its development is a vivid representation of the confidence and ambition of the Jaguar brand, and the desire amongst our engineers and design team to produce a world-leader in a market segment that we have been absent from for too long.”

“But no longer – the F-type is coming.”
The all-aluminum F-type will be a two-seater convertible with the focus “uncompromisingly on delivering driver reward” according to Jaguar.

Happen to be a Jaguar lover with a hankering for unique motorcycles?

Jaguar M-Cycle

If not, we can’t imagine that you’d want to ride around on a massive Leaping Cat sculpture that’s capable of hitting speeds of 50 miles per hour, but that hasn’t stopped Massow Concept Motorcycles from creating just such a beast. Called the Night Shadow, the foundation of the motorcycle is an air-cooled Buell S3’s 1200cc V-twin power-plant.

It does appear to be an odd-looking riding position, don’t you think? In any case, if Jaguar just isn’t your cup of tea, Massow has designed a bunch of other concepts that take well-known logos and turns them into something resembling a motorcycle.
