So the Renault Duster ( Renault Duster RxE Petrol , Renault Duster RxL Petrol , Renault Duster RxE Diesel 85 PS , Renault Duster RxL Diesel 85 PS , Renault Duster RxL Diesel 110 PS , Renault Duster RxZ Diesel 110 PS ) , is a big launch in India. Its the word on everyone’s lips. 4th of July, 2012 is going to be a make-it-or-break-it month for Renault India. The competition has to folds it hands and watch. Renault’s dealer partners have started taking bookings.

Renault dealers in India have started accepting bookings for the Duster compact SUV and the company has already received 1000 bookings. The French automaker will launch the Renault Duster on the 4th of July, 2012 and has already started promotions of the vehicle through video advertisements. The first Duster advertisement shows people regretting their purchase of a sedan as for a similar price, they could have got an SUV. Naturally Renault wants to play hard on the SUV styling of the Duster to attract customers in India, where bigger is better!

To raise the tempo, Renault India has started promoting the Duster by releasing a video on its Facebook page. It has also designed an application that asks fans to guess the price and mileage.
We hear the Duster pricing is still being finalized, but the company has to devise an aggressive price strategy to strike a comeback in the Indian market. They can follow the XUV500′s formula – use the starting price as a crowd puller and then gradually revise the prices in the months to follow.

The petrol powered Renault Duster uses a 1600cc engine to produce 102 PS of peak power at 5850 RPM and 145 Nm of peak torque output at 3750 RPM. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and return 13.24 km/l mileage. The 85 PS diesel Renault Duster produces 85 PS of power output at 3750 RPM and 200 Nm of torque output at 1900 RPM. This engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and returns 20.46 km/l mileage. The 110 PS diesel Renault Duster produces 110 PS of power output at 3900 RPM and 248 Nm of torque output at 2250 RPM. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and returns 19.01 km/l mileage.
Price:

According to Autocar, the pricing of Renault Duster will start at Rs. 7.2 lakhs for the base petrol and go up all the way to Rs. 12 lakhs for the top end 110 PS diesel. The top end Renault Duster will rival the Mahindra XUV500.

Some points from Autocar India’s Review of the Renault Duster –

Renault Duster has excellent road presence
Best riding SUV in its segment.
85 PS diesel offers good drive-ability and less turbo-lag. It has good matched gear ratios.
Braking is fair and is assisted by ABS and EBD.
110 PS Renault Duster has fair bit of turbo-lag but once turbo spools up past 2000 RPM, the Renault Duster offers very good performance.
Renault Duster’s interiors have received beige treatment. Plastics look cheap and the dashboard does not look premium.
Interior room is good and AC is outstanding.
215/65/16 tyres and a 210mm ground clearance. Tank size is 50-litres.

THE NEW MAHINDRA XYLO

The new Xylo comes with three engine options to better suit your driving requirement. First up is the powerful mHawk engine that also does duty on the company’s Genio pick up range and its princely XUV5OO SUV model. A torquey mEagle and a more refined and efficient mDI CRDe engine will also be on offer as optional drivetrains for the new Xylo. Packed with Dual SRS airbags, an Intellipark reverse assist system, ABS with EBD and Extra Stability Technology (offered as standard across variants) safety on the new Xylo is exemplary for this pedigree of vehicle.

But what really sets this car apart and puts it at the top of India’s multi-utility vehicle charts is the introduction of a fully-functional and state-of-the-art Voice Command Technology, which through simple audio commands can operate your headlights, lock/unlock your doors, open your fuel lid and even warn you when a safety lapse is detected. Mahindra plans to launch the new Xylo is two phases, starting with Delhi, Maharashtra, UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, AP, TN, Kerala and Karnataka in Phase I followed by the rest of the country in its subsequent and final launch phase.
