The tyre manufacturer has been associated with motorsport and karting in the country for over 20 years now.MRF-sponsored teams have raced and won at domestic and Asian championships. In 2010, MRF launched the MRF Challenge racing series in India. “The MRF Challenge series helps demonstrate our tyre technology, while also building the brand.We plan to take this event outside India next year – to West Asia and South East Asia (Singapore, Malaysia),” said Arun Mammen, Managing Director, on the sidelines of the launch of Formula 2000, the company’s newest racing car.MRF has tied up with Renault-Sport in France and Italian company Automobili Dallara to build the car. New Mahindra Verito Launched at Rs.5.27 lakh
[ five variants; the Mahindra Verito G2 priced at Rs. 5.27 lakh, Mahindra Verito G4 at Rs. 5.49 lakh, Mahindra Verito D2 at Rs. 6.26 lakh, Mahindra Verito D4 at Rs. 6.48 lakh and the top end Mahindra Verito D6 priced at 7.14 lakh. ]

Mahindra today launched the face-lifted version of their Verito sedan priced in the range of Rs. 5.27 lakh to 7.24 lakh. Apart from a higher price tag the Verito also gets 23 new features.
This is an increase of Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 18,000 across variants. It is available in the same five variants; the Mahindra Verito G2 priced at Rs. 5.27 lakh, Mahindra Verito G4 at Rs. 5.49 lakh, Mahindra Verito D2 at Rs. 6.26 lakh, Mahindra Verito D4 at Rs. 6.48 lakh and the top end Mahindra Verito D6 priced at 7.14 lakh. If we compare the top end variants the Verito is now Rs. 20,000 cheaper than the top end Maruthi Dzire Zdi variant and around Rs. 1 lakh lower than the top end Toyota Corolla Etios VXD variant.

As far as looks are concerned, the Duster, even for its small proportions offers muscular styling- a must-have feature for an SUV. Just over 4 meters long, the SUV rides high on 16 inch wheels. The addition of chrome bits gives the SUV a more premium look. The interior design is simple and the dashboard is uncluttered. The SUV is available in 6 color options.

The Duster gets three engine options with a 1.6 MPFI Petrol and 1.5 CRDI diesel engine in two states of tune. The petrol motor churns out 101 PS and 145 Nm of torque while the mid-range diesel does 85 PS and 20 Nm of twist, while the top-end diesel motor has 110 PS and 248 Nm of torque on offer. The base diesel and petrol models get a 5-speed manual transmission while the RXZ uses a 6-ratio stick shift. As far as fuel economy is concerned, the petrol delivers 13.24 kmpl, RXL (diesel) does 20.64 kmpl, while the more powerful RXZ delivers 19 kmpl.

Renault is offering two trim levels on the petrol models, viz. RXE, RXL, while the RXZ is the top-end trim available only on the diesel models apart from the two base trims. ABS + EBD (on diesel only), Dual Airbags and alloy wheels are only available on the RXZ variant. Having said that, the Duster comes packed with other creature comforts like a 2 DIN audio system with four speakers, fog lamps, air-con with rear vents on RXZ trim, cup holders, steering mounted audio + phone controls, parking sensors, tilt steering etc.

So the Renault Duster ( Renault Duster RxE Petrol , Renault Duster RxL Petrol , Renault Duster RxE Diesel 85 PS , Renault Duster RxL Diesel 85 PS , Renault Duster RxL Diesel 110 PS , Renault Duster RxZ Diesel 110 PS ) , is a big launch in India. Its the word on everyone’s lips. 4th of July, 2012 is going to be a make-it-or-break-it month for Renault India. The competition has to folds it hands and watch. Renault’s dealer partners have started taking bookings.

Renault dealers in India have started accepting bookings for the Duster compact SUV and the company has already received 1000 bookings. The French automaker will launch the Renault Duster on the 4th of July, 2012 and has already started promotions of the vehicle through video advertisements. The first Duster advertisement shows people regretting their purchase of a sedan as for a similar price, they could have got an SUV. Naturally Renault wants to play hard on the SUV styling of the Duster to attract customers in India, where bigger is better!

To raise the tempo, Renault India has started promoting the Duster by releasing a video on its Facebook page. It has also designed an application that asks fans to guess the price and mileage.
We hear the Duster pricing is still being finalized, but the company has to devise an aggressive price strategy to strike a comeback in the Indian market. They can follow the XUV500′s formula – use the starting price as a crowd puller and then gradually revise the prices in the months to follow.

According to Autocar, the pricing of Renault Duster will start at Rs. 7.2 lakhs for the base petrol and go up all the way to Rs. 12 lakhs for the top end 110 PS diesel. The top end Renault Duster will rival the Mahindra XUV500.

Some points from Autocar India’s Review of the Renault Duster –

Renault Duster has excellent road presence
Best riding SUV in its segment.
85 PS diesel offers good drive-ability and less turbo-lag. It has good matched gear ratios.
Braking is fair and is assisted by ABS and EBD.
110 PS Renault Duster has fair bit of turbo-lag but once turbo spools up past 2000 RPM, the Renault Duster offers very good performance.
Renault Duster’s interiors have received beige treatment. Plastics look cheap and the dashboard does not look premium.
Interior room is good and AC is outstanding.
215/65/16 tyres and a 210mm ground clearance. Tank size is 50-litres.

Mahindra is not expected to make any changes to the powertrain as it is provided by Renault and won’t change from its current state of tune. What Mahindra could do is improve the fuel efficiency figure by a bit and the design changes could be in tune to achieve just that.

Mahindra is seriously hoping to up the numbers of the Verito as it continues to make little or no money with this programme. It does pay hefty royalty to Renault for the platform and engine and needs to desperately improve sales to make this project work. The Dacia/Renault Duster is a funky looking SUV and one of the cheapest in the world. In India, the price of this car will lie between 6.5 and 7 lakh. The Duster is not a soft-roader; it manages to hold its own off-road quite well. The 210mm of ground clearance and chunky 215/65 R16 tyres complete the SUV image.

The Renault Duster is offered with either two-wheel or four-wheel drive. The 4×4 variants make use of Nissan’s all-wheel drive system which allows the driver to choose from three different driving modes: Auto, in which the front/rear torque split is calculated automatically as a function of available grip; Lock, whereby 50 per cent of torque is consistently fed through the rear axle, and 4×2 where the transmission is locked into two-wheel drive for maximum fuel efficiency.

The Renault Duster will be available with a 1.6-litre, 105PS petrol or the familiar 1.5-litre turbocharged common-rail diesel that will offer either 85 or 110PS. Size-wise, the Duster is a little smaller than the Mahindra Scorpio and will seat five in comfort.
