The new Verito is a much better looking sedan and has moved away from its original boxy design. It gets a new a new bumper and grille up front, along with Roof Rails and Blackened Pillars giving it a more aggressive and sophisticated stance. The headlamps have a dash of chrome and what look like LED parking lamps.The rear too is fresh and comes with designed tail lamps, a new boot lid with the number plate mounted on it (instead of on the bumper) and a new bumper with built-in reflectors. The dashboard too has been revamped with a beige theme and redesigned center console. The power-window switches have moved from the dashboard and floor to the door pads. It also gets a single airbags, ABS, EBD a driver information system, a 2-DIN music system with CD, mp3, USB and aux-in and electric ORVM controls.The heart of the Verito though remains the same 1.5-litre DCi engine from Nissan which is found on everything from the Micra to the Sunny and Duster. New 2012 Mahindra Verito versus Toyota Etios

The Verito beats the Etios hands down in terms of overall appearance and design. The Etios just looks to drab and uninitiated when it comes to looking good. The Verito in its new avatar looks sharp and suave, even on the inside it looks better than the dull and minimalistic interiors of the Etios.The petrol Etios sports a 1,496 cc engine that makes 89 bhp of power and 132 Nm of torque, that is 14 bhp more power than the Verito petrol. The diesel Etios has a 1,364 cc motor that makes 68 bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque which again is 3 bhp more than the Verito.The Etios starts at Rs. 5.14 lakh for the base petrol variant and goes up to Rs. 8.23 lakh for the top of the line diesel variant. So while the base Verito is still Rs.13,000 more expensive than the Etios the fully loaded variant of the Verito is a full Rs. 1 lakh cheaper and much more value for money.

In terms of looks and design the Verito has improved much like the Dzire. They are both attractive looking cars now with the Dzire being more refined looking. When it comes to power and performance, the Dzire petrol’s 1.2 litre engine makes 86 bhp of power and 114 Nm of torque. The diesel Dzire sports the popular 1.3 litre multijet engine that makes 74 bhp of power and 190 Nm of torque.The Dzire is more powerful than the Verito, both in petrol and diesel avatars. The Dzire is priced at Rs. 4.44 lakh for the base petrol Lxi variant and goes up to Rs. 7.34 lakh for the top of the line diesel Zdi variant. The Dzire still starts at a lower price point but comparing the fully loaded top end variants, shows that the Verito is more value for money.

Conclusion

Toyota has shown off a new car design where the entire exterior is a video display. The car also has an augmented reality display on the inside of the windshield as well as an internet connection for the passengers.

Sadly the car is merely a demonstration model: it’s not likely to be on sale any time soon, but does serve to show that the concept is at least feasible. It’s called the Fun-Vii, with the latter letters referring to vehicle, interactive and internet. Toyota’s boss Akio Toyota said the aim was to create “waku waku doki doki”, which USA Today helpfully translates as “a heart aflutter with anticipation.”

The most prominent feature of the car is the exterior which is a sleek black by default. However, it can not only change color, but can also display custom images and messages. Toyota showed off some examples of the car being used for advertising, which would be a lot simpler than repainting it to display each new campaign.

During a demonstration at the Tokyo Motor Show, the company set the car up to display a smartphone-like “home screen” with the “buttons” triggering demonstrations of the various features. Sadly this appeared to simply be a well-choreographed exhibition rather than the side of the car actually being touch-sensitive.

The gadgetry continues on the inside with the entire interior also an electronic display. At its simplest this can be used to change color to meet different moods. In a more complex use, the windshield can display navigation information, traffic updates and even details of traffic hazards that are in the driver’s blind spot. There’s also an option to get information through audio as with many existing GPS devices.

The entire car would be operated by a permanent Internet connection, which presumably means it’s a lot more hypothetical in some regions than in others. As well as providing the navigation information, the connection could also provide entertainment content for passengers.
